The iPhone XR is the cheapest of Apple's 2018 smartphones, but appears to be beating its more expensive siblings when it comes to charge.

Several threads posted to Reddit have received hundreds of "upvotes" (or likes) about the phone's impressive battery life.

"The iPhone XR doesn't get enough credit for its battery life," wrote user killiangray.

"It's really pretty incredible – it'll easily last me two days without charging. I go to the gym for an hour, listen to Spotify the entire time, come home and it's still at 99%.

"If all you wanted from a new iPhone was better battery life then your prayers have been answers. This thing is a beast."

Another user named Tyranithor said: "Usually my [iPhone] 7 Plus has 40% [battery life] when I get back from work 5pm ish.

"With similar usage, my [iPhone] XR still has 75%, and 50% by midnight. Amazing."

And one said: "Yes totally agree. Get two full days between charge."

Apple announced its three new smartphones in September: the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR.

The first two came out that same month, but the iPhone XR didn't land in stores until late October.

It costs £749, which makes it far cheaper than the £999 iPhone XS.

According to Apple, the iPhone XR is rated to last for 15 hours with internet usage, up from 12 hours on the iPhone XS and 13 hours on the Max.

And for video playback, the iPhone XR is listed as offering 16 hours of life, up from 14 hours on the iPhone XS and 15 hours on the Max.

"It is great not to have to worry if the phone will last until the end of the day," wrote one Reddit user.

"I can easily get even two working days of usage."

And another said: "For me coming from an [iPhone] 6S, it's literally insane!"

Expert testing also suggests that the iPhone XR is perform above average in terms of battery life.

Tech website Tom's Guide tracks battery life, and found that the iPhone XR beat most rivals.

The test involved continuous website surfing on a 4G connection using identical screen brightness, with the following results:

  • iPhone XR – 11 hours 26 minutes
  • iPhone XS Max – 10 hours 38 minutes
  • iPhone XS – 9 hours 41 minutes

The iPhone XR was only beaten by the Huawei P20 Pro, and matched by the Samsung Galaxy Note 9.

But it performed better than both of its iPhone siblings, as well as the OnePlus 6, Google Pixel 3 XL, HTC U12+ and LG G7 ThinQ.

It also lasted longer than the smartphone average battery life of 9 hours and 48 minutes.
